What to expect from your session
Anja McDonald Photography offers custom portraiture which means she designs the session with you. No two sessions are the same! Anja will discuss styling and your wishes for the session prior to booking and the more input you have the more special the end result will be.
Anja will not asked for forced smiles or awkward poses but instead aim for more natural and relaxed style photos – this is when you get the true smiles, cheeky faces and loving looks!
After your session, Anja edits your photos individually and they will be presented to you in a private online gallery for you to choose your products. When purchasing a digital package you will receive your images on a Flash drive in custom packaging.
Here are some general guidelines as to when to book your session
If you are wanting pictures of your glorious baby bump Anja recommends booking in for around 32+ weeks. You need to have a sizeable bump, but you don’t want to leave it too close to your due date! Anja offers a great session package for maternity and newborn photos.
Anja recommends booking your newborn session while you are still expecting! Simply let Anja know your due date and she will book you accordingly. Newborns are best photographed between 4-14 days old. That is to get those lovely sleepy, curly shots. If that is not possible for you then try to do it before your baby is 3 weeks old.
-Babies and children-
Anja Recommends the following ages for baby’s first year shoots.
6 months – try to book your shoot around the time your baby starts to sit. If your baby isn’t sitting Anja will just edit out your hand 🙂
1 year – This will be the perfect last chapter to that ‘Baby’s first year’ book
And of course all other ages that you want to document with a professional photo 🙂
What to wear?
Prior to your newborn session you will be sent information detailing how to best prepare for your shoot.
Anja McDonald Photography’s style is very relaxed and artistic. Even though she will make sure to give posing instruction she will also ensure that photos look natural and unforced.
For a family session Anja suggests you wear outfits that compliment each other. Bold colours or creamy tones are fantastic. She recommends not dressing everyone in the same colours but rather in a complimenting colour scheme. Bring accessories along too the shoot as well. Jewelry, flowers and scarves are a great way of adding texture to a photo. If your child has a favourite teddy or something else that’s special to you and your family, please bring it along to your session.
Anja suggest not wearing clothes with printed brands or busy patterns, as these will take focus away from you and your family. You are welcome to bring several different wardrobe changes to your session.
Anja will also discuss styling with you prior to the photo shoot.
