Preparing for a family shoot
Planning a family shoot can be stressful!
What are we all going to wear? What time of the day is best? What location suits us best? How will my children behave? How can I prepare my children for this? Do I use bribery and not?
ASK YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER FOR HELP!
This is what we do day in and day out. I will talk to you about what you want out of your session, we will discuss styling and locations and I will prep you as much as I can.
I’m not being mean when I tell you not to let the kids play at the park beforehand and to please stay in the car till I get there! Make sure they have had a quiet day at home and not spent the day at a birthday party or picnic.
I know from years of experience that children will not last very long. If they are played out, stressed out or too hot it will be harder to get the photos you want.
Instead turn up at the exact time you have planned with your photographer, no earlier and no later. Be ready as soon as you exit the car. As soon as the children meet me the time starts ticking and we have around 40-45 minutes before they are done being ‘on’.
Example at the very bottom of the post 😂
This is the beautiful 3-year-old Alyssa and her stunning mum Drue. Alyssa loved having her photo taken and her gallery is incredibly beautiful. However, 37 minutes after we started her shoot she was done! This is why I work super fast. I know what shots I want as we have already discussed this and as soon as I have it, I move on to the next.
30 seconds before the last photo on this post was taken, she was playing tea party with her dolly, laughing and dancing and still ‘posing’ and 30 seconds after this shot, Alyssa announced she was going for a nap. She just laid down, closed her eyes and she was done posing!
